Join us at Arraymusic on Tuesday, September 30th for a special evening with Néfur, Iceland-based singer and composer, as she embarks on her first North American tour. Heart Map Ambient Ensemble will open the night with Ambient Works.
Néfur listens, sings, records and makes music with disappearing Icelandic glaciers. Through sounds of water and her singing voice, she raises awareness of the reciprocity and interdependence between humans, glaciers and water. Her work is a felt invitation to remember our kinship with glaciers, to re-align with the ancient rhythms of nature, and to reclaim creativity and joy as a collective power. Shortlisted for her field recording of Solheimajökull glacier lagoon on BBC Sound Awards 2021, Néfur has created an album composed entirely with sounds of disappearing Icelandic glaciers and her voice, called The Water, The Lover. Néfur offers meditative concerts mixing glacier sounds with her hypnotic singing voice. She recently performed at the UNOC3 in Nice, and at festivals CTM (Berlin), Sonar (Barcelona) and Spitalfields Music (London) amongst others.

Heart Map Ambient Ensemble is a minimalist instrumental group co-led by Alex Raja Ven and Andrew Noseworthy. The collective-style project seeks to bridge the gap between classical and ambient electronic music, and has featured a number of artists from the Canadian contemporary music scene. Through open arrangements and varied instrumentation, the ensemble’s approach invites experimentation, improvisation, and new media, resulting in atmospheric and engaging live performances. In August 2025, they performed at Intersection Festival, Toronto’s annual experimental music festival, described by The Globe and Mail as “a marathon of sound in the middle of traffic.”
