Les Gens Qui Partent

Opening for Albane Tamagna and team for the Toronto/Canadian debut of their project “Les Gents Qui Partent.”

–

A musical and documentary performance explores identities related to displacement through the flute, electronics, and collected spoken word.

The project is rooted in the territories it traverses and aims to collect local voices and bring them to be heard elsewhere. This musical and documentary project examines the concepts of displacement, borders, and identity through an embodied experience on the ground. Centered around the flute as the primary instrument and enriched by electronics, documentary sound, and collected voices, the project weaves a close connection between contemporary musical composition and the life stories of those whose lives have been shaped by departure. The stage presentation goes beyond the traditional concert to offer an immersive experience, where the performer’s body, the space, and the sound are in constant dialogue. At the intersection of the political and the personal, the project seeks not so much to explain as to evoke emotion, creating a space for listening to voices that are often rendered invisible.
